Create & Sell Niche Websites
Do you have the skills to build a 5-10 page website?
Even if you’ve never built one, it’s really not that hard to learn, especially with WordPress.
WordPress sites are particularly popular, and many people are making a reasonable income building small niche websites, putting a few articles on them, and then selling them on Flippa. — an auction site specifically for domains and websites.
For each website, you’d need to buy a domain name and a theme. . .
Themes can be bought individually or you could sign up to a theme club for a reasonable one-time cost, or monthly payments, and have access to hundreds of themes.
Add a few free plug-ins to the site for social media and SEO. Then, either write the niche articles yourself or buy a package of Private Label Rights (PLR) articles to personalize and use, and post them to the site along with some nice images.
List the site on Flippa at a cost of $19.
As to what kind of income you could make?. . .
After a bit of digging around Flippa, it seems that many of the folks that do this on a regular basis are averaging $100-$200 per site for newly-built websites.
If you took the time to do some keyword research, SEO optimization, and social media campaigns, and got some decent traffic going to the website I would imagine that the selling price could be considerably higher.
Take that a step further and spend a few months to a year to get the websites earning money and you can sell them for 10-18 times their monthly profit depending on the stability of the income.
When you know what you are doing, you can move on to “website flipping” – buying a website, improving it, and then selling it for a profit.
The Skills You’ll Need(or need to pay for)
Basic niche research and website-building skills.
You’ll need to understand how to point domain names, transfer domains, and move sites to their new home.
Writing skills for the articles, and for the sales copy needed to sell your site.
If you build what people are looking to buy you could make a reasonable side income.
It’s scaleable – If you were to reinvest the money from selling basic sites into bringing traffic and improving a few of them, you will be creating some that might be worth several hundred dollars, or more, each.
You could grow it into a business – building sites as a service, selling website packages, flipping sites, etc.
Picking the right niches and domain names for a sale-worthy site.
There is a lot of competition so you need to find a way to make your sites stand out
Some sites will sell for less than you’d hoped at auction, or not sell at all.
How to Get Started
Do a bit of research on Flippa to see what type of sites are selling well now.
Choose a niche for your first site and buy a domain name.
Write or buy a few articles relevant to the niche and source some images.
Build the site, add plug-ins, and post the articles.
List the site on Flippa or an alternative marketplace.
Rinse and repeat.
Website Sellers’ Success Stories
There are lots of people claiming to be extremely successful building and selling websites, but, as most are selling courses on how to do it, they may have an ulterior motive for making those extraordinary claims. 😉
However, I found some info that may be a little more reliable – just to give you some idea of what type of money can be made:
While researching Flippa I came across an Australian lady who has sold 90% of her new site listings over a 4 year period and made just under $11,000 for 109 sales.
